Why teams switch
Three places traditional user research breaks. AI doesn't.
AI for user research isn't just faster — it changes which conversations you can run at all.
01
Reaching respondents
Two to three weeks to land 10 interviews on the calendar — even when your customer list is right there.
With AskDeeper
Share one link with your customer list, in Slack, or in an in-app widget. Hundreds of conversations in parallel, async — no scheduling, no scripts.
02
Moderating
30% of a researcher’s week is calendar tetris and rescheduling no-shows.
With AskDeeper
AskDeeper moderates 24/7. No scheduling, no scripts to memorise, no awkward small talk.
03
Synthesising
Recordings pile up in Otter and Notion. Themes never get extracted. The next decision lands first.
With AskDeeper
Themes, verbatim quotes, sentiment, and recommended next steps land in one report — every quote linked to its source clip.
The result: teams running AskDeeper close research-to-decision loops in days, not quarters.
How it works
How AskDeeper conducts an AI-moderated interview
01
Brief the AI
Paste your hypothesis — the segment you care about, the decision you’re trying to make, the question you can’t answer with analytics. AskDeeper turns it into a discovery-grade interview guide in about a minute. Edit before you publish.
02
Share one link
Paste an email list, share the link in Slack, drop it into your in-app feedback widget, or send it to a CRM segment. Your customers and trial users are the highest-signal panel you already own. Respondents answer on their phone, by voice or text, on their own time.
03
AI runs the interview
Adaptive follow-ups past the polite first answer. The AI listens to each response and asks the next question from it — probing for specifics, surfacing emotion, catching contradictions. Conversations run 10–30 minutes, 24/7.
04
Insights, not transcripts
Themes clustered with frequency counts. Verbatim quotes linked to the timestamp they came from. Sentiment per theme. Recommended next steps based on signal strength. Export to Notion, Linear, or PDF.

How researchers run their projects today
Recording
When you start a new user research project, what’s the very first thing you do?
Honestly? I just open Lookback and start scheduling.
Got it. Walk me through your last project — what triggered it?
My PM asked me to figure out why our trial-to-paid conversion dropped last month.
How clear was the question by the time it landed on your plate?
Not super clear. He said “talk to some people who didn’t convert.”
How did you decide who to talk to and what to ask them?
I scrolled through Mixpanel, picked 8 free-trial people who churned, and DM’d them.
What did you find — and what would you have wanted to find?
I found three different reasons people churned. But I needed to know which one mattered most.
How do you usually weigh which reason matters most when you have a small sample?
Usually I just go with my gut and tell the PM. It’s not great.
Use cases
Every AI user research method, automated — without losing the rigor
AI customer interviews, win/loss, pricing, AI usability testing, onboarding, churn. One platform, every method, fed by the same AI moderator.
Van Westendorp, Gabor-Granger, or open-ended pricing probes. AskDeeper asks the price-anchor questions, captures the reasoning, and clusters segments by sensitivity — turning conversations into AI customer insights. Coming soon.
Coming soon
AI usability testing
Show a wireframe, a prototype, or a live page. The AI walks each respondent through it, asks them to think aloud, probes for confusion, and surfaces the exact moments the UI lost them. Concept testing and click-based studies share the same playbook. Coming soon.
What you get back
AI-powered user research that ships AI customer insights, not transcript dumps
Outset and Listen Labs show the workflow. AskDeeper ships the output. Every report is the thing you actually paste into Monday's product review — themed, quoted, ranked, sourced.

vs Synthetic Users
Real respondents. AI moderator. The opposite trade-off from Synthetic Users.
Synthetic Users role-play. The model pretends to be your customer and answers itself. Speed and zero panel cost — but as Nielsen Norman Group documents, synthetic respondents have a positivity bias: they tend to praise features real users actually hate. AskDeeper takes the opposite cut: real human respondents, AI moderator. Synthetic's speed without synthetic's positivity bias.
Synthetic Users
LLM role-plays your user
Positivity bias — model praises features real users dislike
Personas drift toward training-data averages, not your ICP
Insights cannot validate decisions that face real customers
Best as a first pass — like spell-check for research, not a substitute for it.
AskDeeper
AI moderator runs real respondents
Real customers, real friction, real verbatims linked to source clips
AI moderator probes past the polite answer — no positivity bias
Insights you can ship from — your panel is your existing customers
Adaptive moderation, audited security, numbers we can show you
Research-savvy buyers want methodology before features. Here is how AskDeeper holds up under that scrutiny — and where we tell you it doesn't.
Adaptive moderation, not scripts
The moderator is grounded in open-ended interview techniques — anchoring abstract claims in concrete instances, surfacing decision logic, reflecting contradictions back. Not a chatbot following a flowchart.
Honest sample-size signals
Themes are scored by signal strength — how many respondents touched it, how strongly, whether it converges across cohorts. We tell you when N=12 is too small to bet on, instead of pretending it isn’t.
Privacy-first by default
GDPR-ready architecture. Customer-controlled data export and deletion per workspace. Encrypted in transit and at rest. Anonymised usage telemetry by default. Respondents consent to recording before every interview starts.
Open about limitations
The moderator works best on attitudes, decisions, and behaviour — less well on physiological observation or precise time-on-task measurement. We publish where AskDeeper helps and where it doesn’t. No black box.

Common questions
AI user research questions, answered
What is AI user research?
AI user research is qualitative research where an AI moderator runs AI user interviews instead of a human researcher. The AI reads each answer, asks the next question from it, probes for specifics, and surfaces emotion — the same techniques a senior researcher uses. AskDeeper does this with real respondents, in voice or text, then auto-extracts themes and verbatim quotes. The researcher’s job shifts from running interviews to deciding what to do with the answers.
How is AI-moderated different from synthetic users?
Synthetic users are LLM-generated personas — the model role-plays a fictional respondent. The data is fast and free, but it is ultimately the model talking to itself. AskDeeper takes the opposite approach: real human respondents, but the moderator is AI. You get the speed and scale of synthetic, with the ground truth of real conversations. Useful for both — synthetic for very early ideation, AskDeeper when the decision actually has to hold up.
Can the AI ask good follow-up questions?
Yes — and you can read sample interviews above before you publish. AskDeeper probes to depth 3–4: past the first polite answer, past the first reason, into the actual behaviour. It anchors abstract claims in concrete instances, surfaces decision logic, and reflects contradictions back. You review and edit the interview guide before launch, so your framing wins every time.
How do I analyze user interviews with AI?
AskDeeper does the analysis automatically. As respondents finish, the AI extracts themes, clusters quotes, scores sentiment per respondent, and ranks themes by signal strength — how many respondents touched it, how strongly they did, where it converges across cohorts. Every theme links back to verbatim quotes, and every quote links back to the source recording timestamp. You can drill from a high-level theme to the exact 30-second clip in one click. Manual analysis tools like NVivo or Dovetail expect you to do the coding yourself — AskDeeper does it first, then lets you correct it.
Does AskDeeper recruit respondents for me?
No — AskDeeper is bring-your-own-panel. Paste an email list, share one link in Slack, drop it into your in-app feedback widget, or send it to a CRM segment. The customers and trial users you already have are the highest-signal panel you can run — and they cost nothing. If you need cold-recruited respondents from outside your CRM, pair AskDeeper with a panel provider like Respondent or User Interviews: paste their candidates as your panel and the AI moderator runs the interviews from there. Either way, no scheduling, no rescheduling, no no-shows.
What languages does it support?
Forty-plus, including English, Spanish, German, French, Portuguese, Italian, Dutch, Russian, Polish, Turkish, Arabic, Hebrew, Hindi, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin, Cantonese, Vietnamese, Thai, and Indonesian. The AI moderates natively in each language — it doesn’t translate then run an English script. Themes and quotes can be reported in the original language or translated for stakeholders.
How much does an interview cost?
Around $1–2 per moderated interview as the platform fee, depending on plan and conversation length. Because AskDeeper is bring-your-own-panel, that is the full price for interviews with your existing customers. If you source respondents from a third-party panel provider, the panel’s recruiting fee (typically $25–60 each) is on top of AskDeeper’s platform fee. Compare to $50–150 in recruiter fees plus 30 minutes of researcher time per manual interview. The first 5 interviews on AskDeeper are free, no card.
How does AskDeeper handle privacy and compliance?
AskDeeper is GDPR-ready: customer-controlled data export and deletion per workspace, encrypted in transit and at rest, anonymised usage telemetry by default. Respondents consent to recording before every interview starts. SOC 2 Type II audit is on our 2026 roadmap and not yet completed — if your procurement team needs a formal report, talk to us about timing. Our public privacy policy details how we handle survey data, analytics, and respondent consent.
Is AskDeeper a good alternative to Dovetail?
They solve different jobs. Dovetail is a research repository — you bring already-completed transcripts and use it to organise, code, and search them. AskDeeper runs the interviews for you, then ships an insight report. If your bottleneck is "I have 47 unread transcripts in Notion," Dovetail helps. If your bottleneck is "I need 30 interviews by Friday and I cannot schedule them," AskDeeper does. Many teams use both — AskDeeper to run, Dovetail to archive.
How does AskDeeper compare to Outset and Listen Labs?
All three run AI-moderated interviews. The differences are in operating model and pricing. Outset is enterprise-flavoured, video-first, and bundles recruiting — best when your team wants a single platform with built-in panels and has procurement budget for a quote-based contract. Listen Labs leads with curated panels and consumer research. AskDeeper is the self-serve cut: bring your own panel, $1–2 per interview, voice or text, set up in two minutes. Best when you want to ship discovery this week and figure out enterprise procurement later — or never.
How much does AI user research cost compared to Dovetail or Maze?
Per-interview: AskDeeper is $1–2 of platform fee per completed interview. Bringing your existing customers or trial users as the panel is free; if you source respondents from a third-party panel provider, their recruiting fee (typically $25–60 each) is on top. Dovetail starts at roughly $30/user/month and does not include the interview itself — you bring the transcripts. Maze starts at around $99/user/month for prototype tests, no moderation. Apples-to-apples, the closest comparison is hiring a recruiter to run the whole funnel — typically $100–200 per interview and 2–3 weeks. AskDeeper’s first 5 interviews are free, no card.
Will AI replace UX researchers?
No — and the answer matters. AI removes the busywork: scheduling, transcribing, first-pass theming, formatting reports. The strategic work — choosing what to research, framing the right question, knowing when an answer is too clean to trust, telling the team what to do with it — stays with the researcher. Teams that use AskDeeper run more research, ship faster, and rely on their researcher more, not less.
